Behavioural, Emotional & Adaptive Functioning Assessments
Sometimes, behavioural changes, such as sudden social withdrawal, school avoidance, explosive anger, or extreme fatigue, are external expressions of hidden emotional distress.
At Corewell, our behavioural and emotional screening processes help decode what these body and mood changes mean. Dr Farzin Shaykhi looks beneath surface-level actions to identify underlying stressors, internalised mood fluctuations, and functional adaptive limits.
Our Clinical Screening Dimensions
Behavioural Assessments
We analyse persistent behavioural patterns to explore why they occur. Rather than simply penalising an action, we look at the environment, underlying triggers, and emotional coping limits that might be driving distress, acting out, or internal shutdowns.
Social, Emotional & Adaptive Functioning Testing
Using advanced rating scales (such as the Vineland-3 or ABAS-3), we measure real-world independence across multiple environments. This identifies how well an individual handles everyday tasks, including:
- Communication: Expressing needs and processing social cues.
- Daily Living Skills: Managing personal hygiene, schedules, and independent safety.
- Socialisation: Navigating friendships, community expectations, and play.
Anxiety, Mood & Emotional Wellbeing Screening
When an individual feels continuously overwhelmed, we use standardised diagnostic measures to evaluate internal signs of depression, generalised anxiety, complex stress, or hidden burnout. This forms a clear foundation for choosing the best clinical treatment path.
When is an Emotional Assessment Necessary?
An investigation into behavioural and emotional wellbeing is highly recommended if you or your family notice the following:
Major difficulties adjusting to a new environment, family layout, or cultural shift.
Sudden, unexplained drops in school engagement or workplace performance.
Unusual bursts of anger, irritability, or panic that seem disproportionate to the trigger.
Persistent flat mood, low motivation, or lack of enjoyment in previously loved hobbies.
